Not sure what to say!

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 - We all celebrate different things. Sometimes I get so frustrated as I am not quite sure what to say, so the safe bet comes out of my mouth. Happy Holidays! There is Christmas, Hanukkah (or is that Chanukah?), Kwanza, Omisoka, Yule, Saturnalia, on and on. My guess is there are more. Then there is Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Kris Kringle, Krampus, Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost), Sinterklaas, and the very scary Ru-klaus, Aschenklas and Pelznickel (Rough Nicholas, Ashy Nicholas and Furry Nicholas). All this and more to make your head spin!We do love to mix it up!Our Christmas as we know it is such a concoction of stories and traditions woven together. Thanks to Washington Irving, Clement Moore and another anonymous writer we don't have to tell our children that they might be scooped up in a basket and dragged off for being bad! Or even worse... cut into pieces! YIKES!I have had some fun over the past few weeks watching all sorts of documentaries about the history of Christmas. Interesting to say the least. Deeply intertwined with Yule and Saturnalia there are some great theories and realities about why we do what we do. All that aside, no matter what you celebrate, I hope you make it the best ever! Even if I am not quite sure what to say, my hopes and wishes remain the same. Enjoy family and friends, pay it forward and spread good cheer! So here it goes... Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Omisoka, Yule & Saturnalia!

Thank you to all who made the hayride and visit with Santa a success!

Wed, 21 Dec 2016 - Holiday Hayride, New Milford, CT 2016.Well, it has come and gone, and it was a rousing success yet again! Our annual Holiday Hayride and visit with Santa was well attended, despite the frigid temps outside. From what I could see, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely!I want to thank HVI (Housatonic Valley Insurance) and Bank Street Theater for joining us to provide this fun, free event to all. Your hard work, dedication and generosity is heartwarming. The horses and wagon from Utopia Percheron in Goshen, CT were a big hit too. I didn't get to ride in the wagon this year due to an injury, but next year for sure! And I want to thank my co workers at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties. Of course let's not forget the big man himself! Santa and Mrs. Claus were, as always, a big hit. This year I was stationed inside with Santa for the most part and I got to witness the joy and exuberance, the awe and wonder on the faces of the children. Oh, plus a bit of fear in some. It made my day!I didn't get to take many photos, I am recovering from a broken rib. But I did manage to get one of Santa and Mrs. C at the end of the night. As if all this wasn't enough, the generosity showed by the people who attended blew me away. We were able to donate $270 to the town of New Milford for the food and fuel bank.  I delivered the money to Peg Molina, director of social services in New Milford today. She was ever so grateful to everyone who donated. Every little bit helps! I can't help but think that it just goes to show you how wonderful people are. Stretched to the max with their own holiday gifts, they still opened up their hearts and wallets to those in need. 2 hours, $270... I'm happy with that!I will see you again next year! We are already reserving the wagon and horses.... Merry Christmas to all!

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 - It's a big year for New Milford, we are celebrating 50 years of our Christmas trees on the green! A tradition started by New Milford resident Walter Shutte, and one we have all enjoyed over the years. We owe a debt of gratitude to Walter, and of course the United Methodist Men of the New Milford United Methodist Church in New Milford. They volunteer their time and talents, they cut down the trees for us and place them on the green. I know they make my holiday season every year!
